Background
Whilst many people come to Pilates through injury or a movement background, I was
introduced to the method four years ago by a desire to do something other than gym-based
exercise, and continued with it as a result of sheer joy in the outcome. I continue to be
amazed by the way it balances my body and mind, both energising and relaxing me and giving me
the strength from within to cope with whatever life throws at me! This resolute belief in the
benefits of Pilates, both physical and psychological, led me to the decision to teach, and I am
delighted to share my passion for such an inspiring form of movement with my clients here in Clapham.
Training
I am a fully qualified Body Control Pilates® matwork teacher and member of the Body Control
Pilates Association (BCPA), Europe’s foremost professional body for Pilates teachers. All BCPA
members work to a laid-down Code of Practice governing teaching standards, professional ethics
and continuing education.
The UK National Standard for Pilates
In August 2005, the UK became the first country in the world to introduce a national standard
governing the teaching of Pilates matwork. This standard details the knowledge and skills that
a teacher must have in order to be formally recognised as a Pilates teacher. It is endorsed by
SkillsActive and the Register of Exercise Professionals and is recognised by the European Health
and Fitness Association. Body Control Pilates is the first specialist training provider to receive
approval against this standard.
